The Mobile Marksheet Dilemma: 4MB Camera Photos vs 150KB PDF Limits
Modern smartphone cameras capture incredibly sharp photos—typically ranging from 3 MB to 8 MB in JPG format. However, almost every major Indian government recruitment portal (including BPSC, BSSC, UPPSC, State Police, Railway DV, and SSC) enforces a strict upload ceiling: "Upload supporting document in PDF format, file size must not exceed 150 KB (or 100 KB)".
If you upload your photo to a standard online PDF converter, it simply wraps the original 4MB JPG inside a PDF container, producing a 4.1MB file that the government server instantly rejects. If you use an aggressive random compressor, the text of your 10th marksheet, roll number, or gazetted authority seal blurs into an illegible smudge.

| Caste / EWS / OBC-NCL Certificate | Max 150 KB | 130 KB – 140 KB | JPG to PDF Under 150KB |

Why Setting Target Size to 140KB is Essential
When a government portal specifies "Max 150 KB", aiming for 149 KB is risky. Here is why targeting 140 KB is the optimal strategy:
- Byte Conversion Buffers: Some web servers compute 150 KB as 153,600 bytes (150 × 1024), while others compute it as 150,000 bytes (150 × 1000). A file measuring 151,200 bytes will fail on the latter.
- MIME Header Overhead: During browser upload, multi-part form boundary data and headers add minor network overhead.
- Zero Text Degradation: At 140 KB, a single-page document scanned or converted at 150 DPI retains razor-sharp typography, ensuring the verification officer can clearly read every grade and signature.
